The Martial Arts History Museum in Glendale is set to open its first permanent Armenian Exhibit this weekend, expanding its mission to showcase martial arts as a global cultural phenomenon. The grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place Saturday, June 27, at 4:00 PM at the museum’s location at 201 N. Brand Blvd., B100, Glendale, CA 91203.

Sponsored in part by US Armenia, the event will feature a live Armenian martial arts demonstration and remarks from City of Glendale dignitaries. Light refreshments will be provided.

Founded in 1999, the museum relocated to Glendale two years ago and has since broadened its focus beyond Asian martial arts to include traditions from around the world. Rather than emphasizing combat techniques, the museum explores the art, history, culture, and traditions behind martial disciplines. The Armenian Exhibit represents a significant step in that direction, highlighting the rich heritage of Armenian martial arts.

Michael Matsuda, museum founder, said the exhibit underscores the museum’s commitment to cultural diversity. ‘Martial arts are not just about fighting; they are about understanding the history and culture of different peoples,’ he said. The permanent exhibit will include artifacts, historical displays, and interactive elements.

The museum’s expansion comes as Glendale, home to a large Armenian American community, continues to embrace cultural institutions. The event is free and open to the public, inviting community members, martial arts enthusiasts, and media to attend.
