Kuwait has invited bids from consultancy companies to advise on the creation of its first autonomous postal service company, which could be a joint venture with the private sector.

The country’s postal services are run by the Communications Ministry.

In late 2023, the cabinet approved plans for an autonomous post company to be under the ministry’s authority which could later float shares to the public.

The ministry said early this year that the new company could initially be a Kuwaiti public shareholding company with a capital of 50 million Kuwaiti dinars ($165 million).

“We have issued tenders for specialised consultancy firms to conduct technical, financial and legal studies regarding the establishment of the Kuwait post company,” said Mashaal Al-Zaid, the ministry’s acting undersecretary.

He said in local press comments on Wednesday that the tender has been published in the official gazette and that the company would be set up with the aim of improving postal services in the country and increasing state revenue.

The deadline for bids is on February 23, he added.

In April, the Communications Ministry said it was considering hiring the UK’s EY consultancy company to help in establishing the post services company, which could be a state enterprise or a joint public-private venture.
