In a prematch press conference to preview Wednesday’s Champions League clash against Slavia Prague, FC Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick revealed that another first team star has told him he’ll leave the club in the ongoing January transfer window.

“This morning Marc said he was going to Girona,” Flick stated when asked about captain Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

“He’s a good goalkeeper, but for our future we made another decision. I wish him the best because he is a fantastic goalkeeper. I hope he does well in the World Cup as well,” Flick added.

That last line was a nod to Ter Stegen trying to get back into the German national team fold, and it’s believed he’ll need regular minutes to do that which are currently kept from him at Barca because of Flick’s faith in Joan Garcia.

Last week, it was already widely reported that Ter Stegen would join the Blaugrana’s Catalan neighbours Girona on loan with the deal appearing to be everything but officially confirmed.

Flick gave updates on injured or doubtful FC Barcelona players

On Raphinha, who missed Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to Real Sociedad, Flick said: “He trained yesterday and I hope he’ll be fine for tomorrow.”

As for Pedri, Flick explained that he asked the midfielder “how he was after the [La Real] game and he told me that he was fine”.

“He’s very important for this part of the field,” Flick added.

Flick think FC Barcelona has the maturity to bounce back after the Anoeta setback

“We’re disappointed, it’s clear. But at the end of the day, football is a game and we play it at a very high level,” Flick said, regarding the loss to La Real which reduced a La Liga lead over Real Madrid to just a point.

“It would be better not to lose, at least in this way. We do things well and we have to improve. We have to be more decisive in front of goal,” Flick demanded.

“This is the Champions League. In every game we’re under pressure. We have to perform well because they have good defense, high pressure… They have had a lot of time to prepare for this match. We want to win both games and get the six points,” he then concluded, regarding FC Barcelona’s mission to try and finish in the top eight of the league phase.

Non-Opioid Painkillers Have Struggled–Cannabis Drugs Might Be The Solution

Non-Opioid Painkillers Have Struggled–Cannabis Drugs Might Be The Solution

The post Non-Opioid Painkillers Have Struggled–Cannabis Drugs Might Be The Solution appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. In this week’s edition of InnovationRx, we look at possible pain treatments from cannabis, risks of new vaccine restrictions, virtual clinical trials at the Mayo Clinic, GSK’s $30 billion U.S. manufacturing commitment, and more. To get it in your inbox, subscribe here. Despite their addictive nature, opioids continue to be a major treatment for pain due to a lack of effective alternatives. In an effort to boost new drugs, the FDA released new guidelines for non-opioid painkillers last week. But making these drugs hasn’t been easy. Vertex Pharmaceuticals received FDA approval for its non-opioid Journavx in January, then abandoned a next generation drug after a failed clinical trial earlier this summer. Acadia similarly abandoned a promising candidate after a failed trial in 2022. One possible basis for non-opioids might be cannabis. Earlier this year, researchers at Washington University at St. Louis and Stanford published a study showing that a cannabis-derived compound successfully eased pain in mice with minimal side effects. Munich-based pharmaceutical company Vertanical is perhaps the furthest along in this quest. It is developing a cannabinoid-based extract to treat chronic pain it hopes will soon become an approved medicine, first in the European Union and eventually in the United States. The drug, currently called Ver-01, packs enough low levels of cannabinoids (including THC) to relieve pain, but not so much that patients get high. Founder Clemens Fischer, a 50-year-old medical doctor and serial pharmaceutical and supplement entrepreneur, hopes it will become the first cannabis-based painkiller prescribed by physicians and covered by insurance. Fischer founded Vertanical, with his business partner Madlena Hohlefelder, in 2017, and has invested more than $250 million of his own money in it. With a cannabis cultivation site and drug manufacturing plant in Denmark, Vertanical has successfully passed phase III clinical trials in Germany and expects…
