Comic book movie Twitter is abuzz with what is allegedly another big leak from Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which purports to show Sadie Sink’s character for the first time, in costume, in full. Though “costume” is used loosely here.

I’m not going to post in case it is legitimate and leaked, but you can see it here. She’s standing next to The Punisher, wearing a bulky jacket and coat with her red hair sporting bangs.

There is debate about whether this image is AI or not, as it is becoming increasingly hard to tell with each new image model released (OpenAI just released a dangerously good one yesterday). While it does have a piece of the Gemini logo on the corner, some have said that’s because the low-quality image was attempted to be upscaled by that AI system (which does give it that stamp, that is true).

Regardless, this set off another debate of whether Sink is Rachel Cole Alves, a redheaded Punisher partner, Typhoid Mary, a lower-tier Marvel villain, or Jean Grey, one of the most important X-Men there is.

Many leakers are starting to confirm that whatever is going on with this picture, that yes, it’s almost certainly Jean Grey. And for a long while now, this is the only answer that makes sense at all for two reasons:

1) Why on earth would Marvel hide this for any other reason than this being a very big character reveal? They wouldn’t even show her in the trailer, only giving us a glimpse of her (clearly psychic) powers. Marvel is not going to hide that Rachel Cole Alves, someone 99.9% of moviegoers will never have heard of, nor Typhoid Mary, a lesser villain than we’ve seen in any past Spider-Man movie in any universe. They would hide Jean Grey. They would really only hide Jean Grey.

2) We know that Sadie Sink and her character are returning for Secret Wars, the second Avengers movie that will kick off a new MCU era in full and, without question, will be the first introduction to at least some of the new X-Men that we’re about to see explored in the next phase. Again, the only rumored character that would make sense to transfer to that film via Sink is…Jean Grey.

I suppose I understand why Marvel is hiding this, but it will leak in full at some point, or at best, right when the movie comes out. The idea is probably not to take away the focus from Spider-Man himself for now. But this is all admittedly still weird as what is Jean Grey doing in a Spider-Man movie hanging out with Peter Parker, The Punisher and Tombstone? What an odd place for her to make her debut. But all will be explained in due time.
