Over 1.8 million Nigerians to benefit from 3MTT National Impact Challenge – FG

The Federal Government (FG) has announced the launch of a National Impact Challenge, an initiative designed to empower over 1.8 million Nigerians enrolled in its 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) Programme.

This was revealed by Bosun Tijani, minister of communications, innovation, and digital economy, through his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday, revealing significant progress in the pilot phase of the programme.

According to him, 3MTT is moving into its scale-up phase. It has made strong progress in building Nigeria’s digital talent base by training over 135,000 Nigerians across three cohorts, extending learning to 300,000+ learners through our community resources, and contributing to the creation of 15,000 job and opportunity pathways.

Beyond these, over 1.8 million Nigerians are currently within the 3MTT pipeline as we work towards the programme’s broader ambition of equipping three million citizens with in-demand digital skills.

“As we enter the scale-up phase of the programme, where we accelerate our spread towards our target, our focus is on deepening impact by strengthening the alumni community, expanding access to opportunity, and ensuring skills translate into real outcomes,” he said.

About the 3MTT new challenge

The 3MTT National Impact Challenge is a new initiative that requires 3MTT fellows and partners to share their transformation stories on social media platforms, including Facebook, LinkedIn, X, TikTok, or Instagram.

According to the programme team, each story shared adds to a collective narrative of resilience, progress, and transformation, showcasing how digital skills are driving change across the nation.

The challenge invites 3MTT Fellows (Cohorts 1–3), DeepTech Fellows (Cohorts 1–2), and NextGen Fellows to share personal stories across all social media platforms, demonstrating how participation in the programme has influenced their skills, careers, and opportunities within Nigeria’s growing digital economy.

It runs from January 19th to February 14th, 2026. According to the programme team, the initiative is part of a broader effort to shift focus from enrolment figures to measurable outcomes, highlighting how digital training is translating into employment, innovation, and economic participation.

Participants stand a chance to win several prizes, such as laptops, national recognition from the Honourable Minister, a handwritten commendation letter, and a feature on the Minister’s social media platforms for the Ten Grand Prize Winners.

Two hundred Top Winners will each receive brand-new tablets, while one thousand Runner-Ups will receive 10GB of mobile data.

How Fellows can participate

Eligible fellows are required to:

  • Record a maximum two-minute “Before and After” video detailing their journey before and after joining the 3MTT or DeepTech programme
  • Share the video on any major social media platform, including LinkedIn, X, Instagram, TikTok, or Facebook

About the 3MTT programme

The 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) is a flagship initiative of the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy in Nigeria, launched in 2023 as part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.

It aims to train 3 million Nigerians in high-demand technical skills to build a robust digital economy, create 2 million digital jobs by 2025, and position Nigeria as a net exporter of technical talent.

The programme focuses on areas such as software development, UI/UX design, data analysis, AI/ML, and more, targeting youths, graduates, and underserved communities without requiring prior technical knowledge.

Nigeria’s National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) is a government body responsible for implementing IT policies, coordinating digital growth, and regulating the IT sector through standards and frameworks, focusing on digital literacy, like the 3MTT program, e-government, and fostering the Nigerian digital economy as part of the country’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The programme operates through a collaborative model that brings together government agencies, training providers, and industry partners. Fellows are enrolled in structured learning pathways that combine classroom instruction, online modules, mentorship, and hands-on projects.

This approach ensures that participants not only acquire theoretical knowledge but also develop practical skills that can be applied in real-world contexts.

By engaging employers and placement organisations, 3MTT creates direct pathways to jobs, internships, and entrepreneurial opportunities, thereby closing the gap between learning and employment.
