CZ says rigid corporate rules led him toward startups, citing freedom, flexibility, and small teams during his Freedom of Money AMA.

Binance founder Changpeng Zhao, known as CZ, said strict corporate rules helped shape his move toward startups.

He made the comments during an April 15, 2026, AMA session for his book, Freedom of Money.

His remarks focused on work culture, personal choice, and the path that later led to Binance.

CZ Says Corporate Rules Did Not Fit His Work Style

CZ said Bloomberg was the largest company where he worked during his career. He also worked with several startups before building Binance.

Those roles gave him different views of company structure. During the AMA, CZ said large companies often follow fixed rules.

He said they also have many internal systems and slow processes. For him, that kind of setting was difficult to accept.

He said a stable 9-to-5 job did not match his personality. However, he noted that such roles can suit many workers. Some people prefer steady schedules, clear rules, and long-term security.

CZ said he was more comfortable in smaller teams. He liked flexible work, faster decisions, and fewer limits. Therefore, startups became a better fit for his working style.

Early Life Helped Shape His Interest in Technology

CZ also spoke about his early life during the session. He said he grew up with a dirt floor and no running water. Yet, he said he was happy despite having little.

His comments showed how he connected simple living with later ambition. He did not present his childhood as a hardship story.

Instead, he said he made use of chances to learn. Technology became an important part of his growth.

As he learned more, his view of the world widened. He began to see how digital tools could change access to money.

That view later influenced his work in crypto. CZ saw a way for people to own and move value globally. This idea became part of Binance’s public message.

CZ said startups gave him more room to build. They also allowed quicker changes when new ideas appeared. This freedom mattered to him as his career moved into crypto.

He later founded Binance with a focus on global money access. The company’s message has often centered on the “freedom of money.” That idea was also tied to his new book.

When asked whether he is as happy today as before, CZ said, “Equally happy.” He added that he is “still a little child inside.”

The answer pointed to his lasting curiosity about technology.

CZ’s remarks offered a personal look at his founder journey. He linked Binance’s growth to freedom, learning, and flexible work.

His comments also showed why rigid corporate rules pushed him toward startups
