Firefighters took two hours to extricate the victims from the crushed car.
PETALING JAYA: Four members of a family, including a one-year-old girl, were killed after their car was crushed by a trailer lorry that overturned on the Kuala Lumpur-Karak highway this afternoon.
The victims were identified as A Halim Hasoon, 55, Rozita Buang, 58, Norbahyah A Halim, 26, and one-year-old Nayla Afya Aizat, Bernama reported.
They died at the scene from their injuries, while the 40-year-old lorry driver is receiving treatment for head and hip injuries.
Firefighters were reported to have taken two hours to extricate the bodies.
Highway concessionaire, AFA Prime Berhad said the trailer was believed to have skidded before crushing the car that was in the slow lane. Both vehicles came to a stop in the emergency lane.
Pahang police said the lorry was travelling from Kuala Lumpur towards Kuantan. It is believed to have lost control while going down a hill and around a bend. “The lorry overturned to the left side of the road before hitting a car in the left lane,” said state police chief Yahaya Othman.
He said the lorry driver was found to have 15 outstanding traffic summonses.
