HYPE Open Interest Tops $1.7B as Hyperliquid Founder Points to Growing Crypto Liquidity Dominance

The HYPE token rallied sharply over the past 24 hours after a statement from Hyperliquid founder Jeff Yan reignited market attention around the protocol’s role in crypto derivatives.

HYPE rose more than 25% in a single day, climbing above $34 and significantly outperforming the broader crypto market. The move followed Yan’s claim that Hyperliquid has quietly become the most liquid venue for crypto price discovery globally — a bold assertion that appears to have resonated with traders.

Open interest and volume confirm strong positioning

The price surge was accompanied by a notable expansion in derivatives activity. Analysts at Outset PR noticed that open interest in HYPE-linked contracts climbed above $1.7 billion, marking the highest level recorded over the past month.

Rising open interest alongside price appreciation typically signals new positions entering the market rather than short covering, pointing to increased directional conviction.

Spot and derivatives trading activity accelerated in parallel. HYPE’s 24-hour trading volume jumped roughly 85% to $850 million, far exceeding the token’s 25% increase in market capitalization over the same period. This divergence suggests that the rally was driven by substantial capital inflows rather than thin liquidity or isolated trades. A surge in volume during a price rally often reflects confidence in the underlying move, reducing the likelihood of a short-lived breakout.

HYPE Outlook Hinges on Sustained Activity

Whether HYPE can maintain its upward momentum will likely depend on continued growth in trading volume and open interest. Sustained liquidity, rather than one-off spikes, will be key to validating Hyperliquid’s claim of dominance in crypto price discovery.

For now, the combination of rising price, expanding open interest, and accelerating volume suggests that the market is taking the narrative seriously — and backing it with capital.

Data-driven Narratives Shape Market Attention

Market reactions to statements like Yan’s are rarely driven by price action alone. Visibility, timing, and narrative framing play a growing role in how quickly liquidity responds — particularly in derivatives-heavy environments.

According to Outset PR, a data-driven crypto PR, market-moving narratives tend to gain traction when messaging aligns closely with real-time data rather than pre-packaged promotion. The agency applies a data-driven methodology that links market events, media trendlines, and audience behavior to determine when and where narratives are most likely to gain traction.

Rather than focusing solely on on-chain flows, Outset PR analyzes traffic distribution and media momentum using its proprietary Outset Data Pulse system. This allows campaigns to be timed around periods of peak attention, informing outlet selection, publication windows, and editorial angles.

A core component of this approach is the firm’s internal Syndication Map, an analytics framework designed to identify which media outlets generate the strongest secondary distribution across major crypto aggregators, including CoinMarketCap and Binance Square. By prioritizing syndication reach rather than surface-level placements, campaigns often achieve visibility that extends well beyond the original publication.

In fast-moving markets, where liquidity follows attention, this alignment between data, timing, and narrative has become increasingly relevant. As recent HYPE activity shows, when market structure, messaging, and capital inflows converge, price discovery can accelerate rapidly.

Australian regulators ease regulations on stablecoin intermediaries

PANews reported on September 18th that, according to Decrypt, the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) has granted a regulatory exemption to stablecoin intermediaries, allowing them to distribute cryptocurrencies issued by licensed Australian institutions without having to hold a separate financial services license. The exemption, published Thursday, states that intermediaries distributing stablecoins issued by Australian Financial Services (AFS) licensed issuers no longer need to apply for separate AFS, market, or clearing facility licenses. This measure, effective upon registration of federal legislation, is a significant step forward in addressing Australia's regulatory challenges in the stablecoin market. Blockchain APAC CEO Steve Vallas stated that this move is a temporary transition before broader reforms and is consistent with financial services law. The exemption does not change the determination of whether stablecoins are financial products, but simply "suspends the secondary licensing requirement for distributors of licensed issuers," allowing distribution through licensed channels while maintaining issuer liability and requiring intermediaries to provide product disclosure statements to ensure transparency.
