Cryptography firm Succinct has unveiled Zcam, an iPhone camera app designed to combat the growing threat of AI-generated deepfakes by cryptographically signing photos and videos at the moment of capture. The app embeds tamper-evident metadata into media files, enabling users to verify authenticity and detect digital manipulation.

Unveiled on April 24, 2026, Zcam leverages Apple’s Secure Enclave hardware to generate cryptographic signatures tied to raw image data. Metadata and attestation records are embedded into files using the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA) standard. This open framework is designed to track the origin and edit history of digital content, providing a verifiable chain of custody.
