Ripple has secured a Crypto Asset Service Provider (CASP) license from Luxembourg, marking another milestone in its international expansion strategy. With this approval, the San Francisco-based fintech company is now authorized to offer regulated crypto payment solutions to institutional clients and financial institutions across 30 member nations of the European Economic Area.

A pivotal move in Europe after MiCA

Earlier this year, Ripple obtained a full Electronic Money Institution license in Luxembourg, and in June, received a green light letter that signaled preliminary approval for its CASP license. The latest confirmation arrives just as the European Union completes its transition to the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) framework, fully adopting unified regulations for the crypto industry.

To obtain a CASP license under MiCA directives, crypto firms must meet strict standards for compliance, supervision, and capital requirements, highlighting the significance of Ripple’s achievement in securing this credential.

Glossary: MiCA is the European Union’s regulatory framework that introduces standardized rules for the crypto asset market. The CASP license certifies an entity to offer crypto-related custodial, trading, transfer, and other essential services to clients.

Best known for its blockchain-based payment networks, Ripple is leveraging this new regulatory authorization to widen its presence in various global markets. The Luxembourg license adds another crucial link to its web of regulatory permissions worldwide.

Ripple now boasts over 75 global licenses

Ripple’s tally of regulatory approvals and licenses has surpassed 75 across multiple international jurisdictions. This latest European development serves as the newest chapter in Ripple’s strategy of compliance-driven global growth.

As of July 1, the transitional period for the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation officially ended in the EU. While select EU member states like Germany, Poland, and Latvia maintained distinct deadlines, the new regulatory era has now begun for the continent as a whole.

Binance forced to suspend certain services

During the same period, Binance—recognized as the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange by trading volume—failed to secure a CASP license before the regulatory window closed. Consequently, Binance has notified users in several EU countries, including France, Italy, Spain, and Poland, that select services would be suspended due to the inability to meet new compliance requirements.

The revised regulatory calendar in Europe has sharply distinguished platforms that have embraced compliance from those still scrambling to catch up, bringing the importance of timely licensure into the spotlight.
