Card Takes a Hit

The card suffered a significant blow when unified WBO and IBF middleweight champion Janibek Alimkhanuly was removed from the co-main event after testing positive for a banned substance. The Kazakh fighter, who was set to unify three middleweight belts against WBA champion Erislandy Lara, is now fighting to clear his name, but the huge fight for the middleweight division is now off.

The winner might have had a shot at fighting Terence Crawford if he was interestedi n pursuing a title in another weight class. Lara will instead defend his title against Johan Gonzalez in a super welterweight bout.

The loss of the three-belt unification dramatically weakens what was shaping up to be one of the more stacked cards of the year.

The Main Event

I was at Barclays Center for Roach vs. Davis in March and scored the fight for Roach. The WBA super featherweight champion went toe-to-toe with Tank and earned a controversial draw that many believed should have been his victory. Now he’s moving up another weight class to challenge for gold at 140.

Cruz, meanwhile, was the last fighter before Roach to go the distance with Davis back in 2021. The Mexican star lost a decision that night but earned respect for his relentless pressure and durability. Since then, he’s bounced back from a loss to Jose Valenzuela by outpointing Angel Fierro and Omar Salcido to claim the WBC interim title.

Two-division champion Stephen Fulton moves up to challenge WBC super featherweight titleholder O’Shaquie Foster, looking to become a three-division champion—a fight that now carries even more weight with the Janibek-Lara unification off the table.

The Tank Connection

While Davis isn’t fighting on this card and no one knows when or if he’ll return to the ring, Tank is a key piece of the puzzle attached to the main event. Roach and Cruz have fought him with the former being robbed of a decision victory and the latter giving Davis one of his toughest nights in the ring.

Expect to hear Davis’ name called out often during the Amazon Prime Video PPV broadcast. Be on the lookout for post-event coverage following the event.

(Photo by Brandon Sloter/Image Of Sport/Getty Images) Getty Images St. Louis Cardinals lifer Adam Wainwright is a pretty easygoing guy, and not unlikely to talk with you about baseball traditions and barbecue, or even share a joke. That personality came out last week during our Zoom call when I mentioned for the first time that I’m a Chicago Cubs fan. He responded to the mention of my fandom, “So far, I don’t think this interview is going very well.” Yet, Wainwright will return to Busch Stadium on September 19 on a more serious note, this time to honor another former Cardinal and friend, the late Darryl Kile. Wainwright will take the mound not as a starting pitcher, but to throw out the game’s ceremonial first pitch. Joining him on the mound will be Kile’s daughter, Sierra, as the two help launch a new program called Playing with Heart. “Darryl’s passing was a reminder that heart disease doesn’t discriminate, even against elite athletes in peak physical shape,” Wainwright said. “This program is about helping people recognize the risks, take action, and hopefully save lives.” Wainwright, who played for the St. Louis Cardinals as a starting pitcher from 2005 to 2023, aims to merge the essence of baseball tradition with a crucial message about heart health. Kile, a beloved pitcher for the Cardinals, tragically passed away in 2002 at the age of 33 as a result of early-onset heart disease. His sudden death shook the baseball world and left a lasting impact on teammates, fans, and especially his family. Now, more than two decades later, Sierra Kile is stepping forward with Wainwright to…

XRP Awaits 400% Network Surge: But It Might Not Help Price

The post XRP Awaits 400% Network Surge: But It Might Not Help Price appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. What moves XRP forward Moving averages sloping down Over the last three months, XRP’s on-chain activity has increased dramatically, with a number of network metrics approaching levels that resemble a 400% surge in comparison to their late-summer baselines. What moves XRP forward The total volume of payments, the number of payments made between accounts and the overall transaction throughput have all significantly increased. However, the price chart presents a far less optimistic picture, and this discrepancy is the main risk moving forward. There is an improvement in network throughput. Daily payments usually fall into the upper end of the multi-month range, and spikes in payment volume show increasing value movement throughout the network. XRP/USDT Chart by TradingView However, this momentum is not reflected in the market structure. The price of XRP is still stuck in a distinct downward channel and keeps missing declining resistance. More worrisomely, all attempts to break above the 20- and 50-day moving averages are swiftly rejected. Moving averages sloping down The 50-day, 100-day and 200-day major moving averages all slope downward, indicating a persistent bearish environment. The chart was momentarily distorted by a single vertical liquidation wick in October, but price action quickly re-anchored inside the broader downtrend, confirming rather than refuting structural weakness. Growing network usage frequently indicates early strength for emerging ecosystems, but XRP has shown time and time again that transaction growth by itself does not translate into market demand. Because a large portion of the activity is driven by automated flows, arbitrage paths and institutional routing rather than speculative accumulation, the ledger processes high volumes even during times of poor price performance.
