TACLOBAN CITY, Philippines – After nearly six years in detention, journalist Frenchie Mae Cumpio and activist Marielle Domequil arrive at the Regional Trial Court Branch 45 in Tacloban City for the promulgation of their terrorism financing and illegal possession of firearms and explosives cases on Thursday, January 22.
Relatives, friends, and concerned advocacy groups are present at the courthouse to await judgment on the cases.
International media groups have called for the immediate release of Cumpio and Domequil, and have warned that a conviction would have dangerous repercussions that would be felt by Filipino journalists and the communities they cover.
