MANILA, Philippines – President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. spent Wednesday evening, January 21, at a private hospital in Quezon City, the Palace said on Thursday, January 22.
“The President spent the night under medical observation as a precautionary measure after experiencing discomfort. His doctor’s advice – rest and monitoring, and his condition remains stable. The President continues to carry out his responsibilities while under medical observation and has returned to Malacañang,” said Undersecretary Claire Castro in a briefing.
Castro later confirmed that Marcos stayed at the St. Luke’s Medical Center in Quezon City. He has since been discharged and is back in Malacañang, she added.
The Palace briefing did not provide details on what sort of discomfort Marcos experienced. The President, said said, was holding private meetings, including for upcoming public events.
Marcos was supposed to grace the The Outstanding Young Men of the Philippines’ awarding ceremony in Malacañang on January 22. His speech was instead delivered by Executive Secretary Ralph Recto.
This would not be the first time for Marcos and the Palace to disclose a health issue. He has been diagnosed with COVID-19 while in office twice — in 2022, during the first week of his presidency, and later in 2023. – Rappler.com
