Key Takeaways

  • Most markets are quoted in US dollars; Anthropic quoted a pound price for the UK at Pro's 2023 launch, and India is billed in local currency according to July 2026 press reports.
  • Anthropic's pages say prices appear "in your local currency where supported" and publish no rupee price list; the India App Store lists Claude Pro at ₹1,999 a month, press reports from July 2026 put the web price at about ₹2,000 a month on annual billing, and your account's upgrade page is the only official web figure.
  • India's 18% GST on imported digital services applies to the subscription; one July 2026 report says the rupee prices it quoted include it, another quoted a pre-tax figure, so read the tax line on your own invoice.
  • Anthropic's dollar prices exclude tax, so your billing address sets the final price everywhere else.
  • App Store prices come from Apple's per-country grid and usually include local tax, so they rarely match the web price exactly.
  • Changing your App Store country means canceling subscriptions and, in many cases, adding a local payment method, which makes the workaround costlier than it saves.

What is the Claude AI price in India? On the India App Store, Claude Pro costs ₹1,999 a month or ₹19,900 a year and the two Max listings ₹12,900 and ₹24,900 a month, while the ₹2,000 in the title is a July 2026 press report of the web price; Anthropic's own price list is in US dollars, before tax.

Everything that turns that dollar price into the figure on your card statement happens after it leaves Anthropic's page: the currency your account is billed in, the tax your country charges on imported digital services, the store you buy through, and your bank's conversion fee.

One caution before the numbers: Anthropic's current pages state US dollar prices only, so every local figure in this guide is a tax rate from the government that sets it, a price listed on the India App Store, a price reported by the press on a stated date, or, for the UK, Anthropic's own launch-day figure from 2023.

How Much Does Claude Cost Before Tax?

Anthropic's official pricing page lists its plans in US dollars, excluding applicable tax, and says plans and prices can change at its discretion.

PlanMonthlyAnnual
Free$0$0
Pro$20$17 a month, billed as $200 up front
Max (formerly Max 5x)$100Monthly only
Ultra (formerly Max 20x)$200Monthly only

Max and Ultra also include $100 and $200 a month of API credits respectively for the Claude Developer Platform, which is a dollar-denominated benefit wherever you live.

Team pricing in the US is $25 per standard seat and $125 per premium seat per month, or $20 and $100 on annual billing, and Enterprise is $20 per seat per month billed annually, 20-seat minimum, plus usage at API rates.

The full plan-by-plan breakdown, including Team and Enterprise, is in Claude pricing for every plan.

Why the Same Plan Costs Different Amounts in Different Countries

Three things move the price: tax, the point of purchase, and your bank's currency conversion.

Anthropic sets only the first number; the other three layers are added by your government, the store and your card issuer.

Your billing address determines the tax, per Anthropic's billing address guidance.

An optional tax or VAT ID field appears only for eligible addresses.

Web purchases show a pre-tax dollar price with tax added at checkout; app store purchases make Apple or Google the seller, with their own price grid.

Anthropic's Pro plan help article says pricing appears in local currency where supported, and its billing pages say prices exclude tax and that your billing address determines how tax is calculated.

Those are the only country-pricing statements on Anthropic's pages.

Claude Price in India: What Claude Pro and Max Cost in Rupees

The Claude Pro price in India is ₹1,999 a month or ₹19,900 a year on the India App Store, and press reports from July 2026 put the web price at about ₹2,000 a month on annual billing.

Anthropic itself publishes no rupee figure; its Pro plan article says pricing appears "in your local currency where supported" when you open the upgrade page, and that page is the authoritative number for your account.

PlanIndia App Store (Apple listing, November 5, 2026)Web price reported in July 2026US list price
Pro, monthly₹1,999 a monthReports disagree on the tax; check your upgrade page$20 a month
Pro, annual₹19,900 a yearAbout ₹2,000 a month, billed annually (reported)$200 a year, or $17 a month
Max (App Store name: Max 5x)₹12,900 a monthFrom about ₹11,999 a month (reported)$100 a month
Ultra (App Store name: Max 20x)₹24,900 a month₹23,999 a month (one report)$200 a month

The App Store listing still uses the old names Max 5x and Max 20x; on Anthropic's own pages those plans are now called Max and Ultra.

The reports do not agree on every digit.

TechCrunch (July 13, 2026) put Pro at ₹2,000 a month billed annually and Max from ₹11,999; the Free Press Journal (July 14) put Pro at ₹1,999 on annual billing and ₹2,399 monthly, a figure TechCrunch instead listed as the Team per-seat price, Max 5x at ₹11,999 and Max 20x at ₹23,999, all with GST included; a third report quoted ₹2,033 before GST.

The spread is a few rupees and a tax line, which is why the upgrade page, not a headline, should settle it.

The tax itself is not in doubt.

India charges 18% GST on digital services supplied from abroad, and foreign providers must register as Non-Resident Online Services Providers under the rules on India's GST portal.

Web payments are by credit or debit card only, per Anthropic's billing FAQ; no first-party page mentions UPI or RuPay.

Is There a Claude Student Price in India?

No. Anthropic's Pro help article says it offers no standard discounted pricing on any paid plan, in India or anywhere else.

Claude for Education is bought by institutions for their members, not by individual students, and it has no published price.

What About Claude Code and Max for Indian Users?

Claude Code is included in every paid plan and shares the same usage pool as chats, so it has no separate price in India or anywhere else, and whether a plan or per-token Claude Code billing works out cheaper is the same calculation in every country.

On the India App Store, Max costs ₹12,900 a month and the $200 tier, now called Ultra but still listed there as Max 20x, costs ₹24,900; the July 2026 press reports put the web price of Max from about ₹11,999 a month, and one of them says that figure includes GST.

If the reported rupee pricing is right, it is a billing change, not a cheaper tier: the plan buys the same usage it buys in the US, and only the currency on the invoice changes, so whether Claude Max is worth it comes down to the same usage test in India.

Claude Subscription Price in the UK, Japan, Nigeria and Turkey

The same pattern applies everywhere, with a different tax rate in each country.

Start with the official dollar price, add your country's tax on foreign digital subscriptions, then apply your bank's exchange rate on the billing day.

CountryTax on foreign digital subscriptionsRateList price basis
United KingdomVAT20%£18 Pro at launch (2023)

NigeriaVAT on non-resident digital servicesRate set by the Nigeria Revenue ServiceUS dollars

Your upgrade page is the only official local Claude price; press-reported figures rank last. Source: Claude pricing page, Claude Help Center, Anthropic's 2023 Claude Pro launch post and India's GST portal.

United Kingdom

Anthropic quoted £18 a month for the UK when Pro launched in September 2023; its current help pages list US dollars only, so the upgrade page is where any current pound price appears.

HMRC's guidance on digital services sold to consumers says the place of supply is where the consumer is located, and it counts software among digital services.

That puts 20% VAT on a UK subscription whoever sells it.

Japan

Japan's National Tax Agency decides whether consumption tax applies by the recipient's address, not the seller's location.

A Japanese subscriber pays the 10% consumption tax either way, at web checkout or inside the app store price.

Nigeria and Turkey

Both countries tax foreign digital subscriptions and require overseas suppliers to collect the tax.

Claude is available in both; Anthropic's supported countries list spells the second one "Türkiye (Turkey)."

The friction in both is currency rather than tax.

A dollar price becomes more expensive in local terms whenever the naira or the lira weakens, even though the price on Anthropic's page has not moved.

App Store vs Web: Which One Is Cheaper?

The web and the app store are different listings.

The web shows a pre-tax dollar or pound price; the App Store shows a local price, usually tax-inclusive, chosen from the 800 price points per currency that Apple's subscription pricing documentation gives developers.

Apple is the merchant of record in most territories, so it collects and remits the tax and shows one all-in price.

The two prices usually land close together and rarely match exactly.

An app store subscription is managed through your Apple or Google account, which handles receipts, payment methods and refunds.

A web subscription is managed through Anthropic's billing pages.

Why Turkey and Argentina Show Up in Cheap Claude Searches

Because storefront price points are set per country, and the gaps between them drive the searches.

Argentina appears in these searches for the same reason Turkey does, a weak currency against the dollar in Apple's price grid; the account-country rules below apply to both.

Apple's own instructions for changing your account country require you to spend any remaining balance and cancel subscriptions that block the change, and you may need a valid payment method for the new country.

Using a VPN or a mismatched storefront goes against those rules, and the same account holds every other purchase you have made.

Whether to try is governed by Apple's terms, not by the price difference.

For most people the canceled subscriptions and the paperwork cost more than the gap saves.

What Your Bank Adds on Top

Cross-border and currency-conversion charges vary by card issuer, which is how a $23.60 charge can appear as an odd figure in your local currency.

The markup is set in your card agreement, not in any published Anthropic figure.

Read that line of the agreement before assuming the dollar plan costs more than a local one.

The difference is often the bank's, not Anthropic's.

What Country Pricing Tells You About Anthropic's Business

It tells you Anthropic prices like a company that now files with the SEC.

Its S-1, filed October 26, 2026 and announced in Anthropic's own notice, shows $16.3 billion of revenue for the first half of 2026 and describes a business sold mostly to companies.

Its Amendment No. 1 (Form S-1/A), filed November 2, 2026, added third-quarter revenue of $16.96 billion and still does not break out consumer subscriptions, as detailed in Anthropic's Q3 2026 results.

Consumer subscriptions are not broken out in the filing's summary, and rupee pricing for them is a market-by-market decision rather than a disclosed one.

Until the IPO prices, which cannot happen before a roadshow starting November 10, 2026 at the earliest, the ANTHROPICUSDT pre-IPO contract on MEXC tracks the company's expected valuation and converts into standard ANT stock futures once the listing completes.

It is a leveraged derivative whose price reflects market expectations rather than a confirmed listing price, so position size matters; what the filing says about the business is in whether Anthropic is profitable.

Anthropic's revenue comes mostly from companies, so consumer prices are set market by market rather than disclosed. Source: Anthropic, PBC Form S-1, filed October 26, 2026.

FAQ

What is the Claude Pro price in India?

On the India App Store, Claude Pro costs ₹1,999 a month or ₹19,900 a year, and July 2026 press reports put the web price at about ₹2,000 a month on annual billing; Anthropic publishes no rupee list, so check your upgrade page.

Does Anthropic have an official India price or UPI support?

Anthropic publishes no rupee price list for the web, though the India App Store lists rupee prices; Anthropic says web prices appear in local currency where supported, press reports from July 2026 describe rupee billing in India, and its billing pages mention only credit and debit cards for web payments, not UPI.

Is Claude cheaper on the App Store or on the web?

Neither reliably; the App Store price is tax-inclusive from Apple's grid and the web price is pre-tax in dollars, so compare the final figures for your country.

What is Claude Premium and what does it cost?

There is no Claude Premium plan; Premium is a Team seat type that costs $125 per member per month, or $100 on annual billing, against $25 or $20 for a Standard seat, and the paid plans are Pro, Max, Ultra, Team and Enterprise.

Is there a Claude student discount?

No; Anthropic offers no standard discount on any paid plan, and Claude for Education is sold to institutions.

Why was I charged more than $20?

Because your billing address sets the tax, which Anthropic's dollar prices exclude; in India 18% GST applies, and whether a reported rupee price already includes it differs by report, so read the tax line on your invoice.

Is Claude available in Nigeria and Turkey?

Yes; both are on Anthropic's supported countries list, and both tax foreign digital subscriptions.

Can I pay Turkey's App Store price using a VPN?

Apple's rules require a real change of account country, which can mean a local payment method, so a VPN alone does not work and breaches those rules.

Does annual billing change how much tax I pay?

The rate does not change but the base does: tax applies to the $200 up-front charge instead of to twelve $20 charges, so the annual total is lower in the same proportion as the price.

The Bottom Line on Claude Pricing in Your Country

The dollar price is the simple part.

The local-currency figures in circulation come from the India App Store listing, press reports, tax law and, for the UK, a 2023 launch post, not from a current Anthropic web price list, which is one more reason the upgrade page is the number to trust.

Your actual cost depends on local tax, the store you buy through and your bank, and only the tax is published.

Check your invoice against the official price before assuming a regional price exists, and if your interest is in the company rather than the subscription, the pre-IPO market is where that interest is expressed.
