Did Claude Raise Its Prices? Claude Pricing for Free, Pro, Max, Ultra, Team and Enterprise
Key Takeaways
- Claude runs from $0 to $200 a month for individuals: Pro is $20 monthly or $17 a month billed annually, Max is $100 for 5x Pro's usage, and Ultra, the tier formerly called Max 20x, is $200 for 10x Pro's weekly usage, both billed monthly only.
- Team seats are $25 (standard) or $125 (premium) per seat per month, or $20 and $100 on annual billing, for 2 to 150 seats; Enterprise is $20 per seat per month, billed annually, with a 20-seat minimum plus usage at API rates.
- Anthropic publishes usage multipliers, not message counts, so any prompt count you see is an estimate.
- Claude Code and Cowork are included in every paid plan, and Design is now on Free too; none of them has a separate price.
- No plan has raised its price; what changed in 2026 is the bundle: Fable moved to usage credits on Pro and Team standard seats in July, Max 5x and Max 20x became Max and Ultra at the same prices, and Max, Ultra and Team now include monthly API credits ($100 on Max, $200 on Ultra, up to $500 pooled on Team).
- There is no student discount, and education pricing is quoted per institution.
Did Claude raise its prices? No plan price went up in 2026: Pro is still $20 a month ($17 billed annually), Max is $100, and the $200 tier once called Max 20x is now Ultra at the same price. API rates fell instead, with Opus 5.5 at $4 / $20 and Haiku 5.5 at $0.10 / $0.50 per million tokens.
What has changed is what each price buys: which models a plan includes, how much usage it carries, and, since this year, how much API credit comes with it.
This guide lays out every plan's price from Anthropic's own pages, explains the pieces that get mistaken for a price rise, and ends with what the pricing says about the company behind it.
Claude AI Price by Plan: What Does Each Tier Cost?
Claude's price plans run from $0 to $200 a month for one person, across six named plans: Free, Pro, Max, Ultra, Team and Enterprise.
Free is $0; Pro is $20 a month or $17 a month billed annually; Max is $100 and Ultra, formerly Max 20x, is $200; Team standard seats are $25 a month or $20 on annual billing and premium seats $125 or $100; Enterprise is $20 per seat per month, billed annually, plus usage.
All prices on the Claude plans and pricing page are in US dollars and exclude tax.
| Plan | Billed monthly | Billed annually | Seats | Usage | Monthly API credits included |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $0 | 1 | Baseline | — |
| Pro | $20 | $17 ($200 up front) | 1 | At least 5x Free per 5-hour session | — |
| Max | $100 | Monthly only | 1 | 5x Pro per 5 hours and per week | $100 |
| Ultra (formerly Max 20x) | $200 | Monthly only | 1 | 10x Pro per week; no 5-hour limit for verified accounts | $200 |
| Team standard seat | $25 per seat | $20 per seat | 2 to 150 | 1.25x Pro | $20 per seat (pooled) |
| Team premium seat | $125 per seat | $100 per seat | 2 to 150 | 6.25x Pro | $100 per seat (pooled; pool capped at $500) |
| Enterprise | — | $20 per seat per month, billed annually; 20-seat minimum (50 for sales-assisted contracts); usage billed separately at API rates | 20 or more | Consumption based | — |
The API credits are new in 2026 and easy to misread.
They are for building on the Claude Developer Platform, not for extra usage in the Claude apps or Claude Code; Anthropic's credit rules say they expire at the end of each billing cycle and do not change your usage limits.
Two arithmetic points fall out of the table.
Annual Pro saves $40 a year and is billed as $200 up front, and a Team of two on annual billing is the cheapest business option at $40 a month.
How those prices stack up against ChatGPT's plans, tier by tier, is set out in the Claude vs ChatGPT price comparison.
Each Claude plan buys more usage than the one below it, and Max and Ultra now carry API credit worth their price. Source: Claude pricing page and Claude Help Center (list prices).
How Much Is Claude Pro, and What Does It Add Over Free?
Claude Pro costs $20 a month in 2026, or $17 a month billed annually as $200 up front, the same $20 monthly price it had in 2025, per Anthropic's pricing page.
Free includes chat on the web, desktop and mobile apps, web search, memory, Claude Design, Slides and Docs, and up to five projects.
It excludes Claude Code, Cowork and Science, and its models are Sonnet and Haiku.
Pro adds Claude Code, Cowork, Science and Research, lifts the five-project cap on Free, and brings Opus plus Claude in Chrome and Microsoft 365; Design, Slides and Docs are on Free as well.
Pro also carries at least five times Free's usage per five-hour session, which for most people is the reason to pay.
How Much Is Claude Max, and Is Ultra Worth Paying For?
Claude Max costs $100 a month and Ultra, the tier formerly called Max 20x, costs $200 a month; both are billed monthly only, with no annual price.
Anthropic sells both as usage upgrades rather than feature upgrades: five times Pro's allowance per five hours and per week on Max, and ten times Pro's weekly allowance with no five-hour limit for verified accounts on Ultra, plus priority access to new models and features, Fable on up to half of the weekly limit, and the API credits described below.
Max is billed monthly only.
The pricing table, the pricing FAQ ("Both options are billed monthly") and the Max plan support article ("currently available as a monthly subscription only") now agree, so there is no annual discount to wait for.
What Max and Ultra add beyond usage is $100 (Max) or $200 (Ultra) a month of API credits for the Claude Developer Platform, claimable after seven days on the plan and reset each cycle.
For someone who already pays for API access, that credit can offset the whole subscription price; for a chat-only user it is worth nothing.
Switching from annual Pro to Max is prorated, and the remaining Pro balance is credited if it exceeds the Max price and the billing address matches.
Whether the upgrade is worth it for you is worked through in the guide to who actually needs Max 20x, the tier now sold as Ultra.
Claude Code Price: What Is Included and What Bills Extra?
Claude Code has no separate price.
It is included in every paid plan and draws from the same usage pool as your chats, so a heavy coding session spends the allowance your writing would have used.
Premium Team seats get more usage, not exclusive access to Claude Code.
The older rule that required a premium seat applies only to legacy Enterprise contracts; new and self-serve Enterprise plans include Claude Code on the single Enterprise seat, per Anthropic's Claude Code guide for Team and Enterprise plans.
Claude Code works in the terminal and in VS Code, Cursor and JetBrains editors, billed the same way wherever you run it.
When plan usage runs out, you can turn on usage credits and keep working at standard API rates, or run Claude Code against a Console account billed per token.
The monthly API credits that come with Max and Team do not apply here either; Anthropic's Team and Enterprise guide says they cannot be used in Claude Code or the Claude apps.
The subscription-versus-API math for coding is in the guide to Claude Code's subscription price versus API price.

Which Claude Models Come With Which Plan?
Model access is the main difference between tiers.
Sonnet and Haiku are on every plan, Opus starts at Pro, and Fable is handled differently by tier.
| Model | Free | Pro | Max and Ultra | Team | Enterprise |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Haiku | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Sonnet | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Opus | No | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Fable | No | Usage credits | Included, up to 50% of weekly limits | Usage credits on standard seats; 50% of weekly limits on premium seats | Yes |
| Mythos | No | No | No | No | No (vetted organizations only, outside the plans) |
The current model generation is Opus 5.5, Sonnet 5.5 and Haiku 5.5, alongside Fable 5.1; Opus 5, Sonnet 5 and Haiku 4.5 remain on the API rate card.
Mythos is not on any consumer plan; access is limited to a small set of vetted organizations through Anthropic's Glasswing program.
On Max, Ultra and premium Team seats, Fable is included up to half of the weekly limit, per the Fable models support article; on Pro and Team standard seats it runs on pay-as-you-go usage credits.
Context length now depends on the model rather than the plan.
Anthropic's context-window article lists 1 million tokens for Fable 5.1, Opus 5.5, Opus 5, Sonnet 5.5, Sonnet 5 and Haiku 5.5, 500,000 for Fable 5, Opus 4.6–4.8 and Sonnet 4.6, and 200,000 for everything else, on every paid plan.
How Much Is a Claude Team or Enterprise Seat?
A Team standard seat costs $25 a month, or $20 on annual billing; a premium seat costs $125 or $100.
There is no Claude Premium plan: Premium is a Team seat type, priced at $125 per seat a month or $100 a month on annual billing.
Teams need at least two members and can have up to 150 seats, after which Anthropic points you to Enterprise, per the Team plan support article.
Standard seats get 1.25 times Pro's per-session usage and premium seats 6.25 times, and the limits are per member rather than pooled.
Team includes single sign-on and Domain Capture, spending caps, search across Slack, Microsoft 365 and custom connectors, central billing, and model training switched off by default.
Team seats also carry pooled API credits: $20 per standard seat and $100 per premium seat each month, pooled into one balance capped at $500.
Anthropic's example is three standard and two premium seats, which earn $260 a month.
Enterprise is $20 per seat per month, billed annually, with a 20-seat minimum for the self-serve plan and 50 seats for sales-assisted contracts, plus usage at API rates; the seat fee covers access to the platform and no usage.
Self-serve pays in US dollars by card or ACH and prepays usage credits; sales-assisted contracts invoice usage monthly in arrears and support other currencies, per the Enterprise seats article.
Enterprise adds SCIM, audit logs, a Compliance API, custom data retention, IP allowlisting and a HIPAA-ready offering with a business associate agreement.
Team seats earn pooled API credit, $20 per standard and $100 per premium seat, capped at $500 a month. Source: Claude pricing page and Claude Developer Platform docs.
Do Claude Cowork and Claude Design Cost Extra?
There is no separate Claude Cowork price: Cowork comes with the paid plans and draws on the same usage limits as your chats, so its price is the price of your plan.
Anthropic's pricing page now carries the line "Claude Cowork is now just Claude," and Design appears on the Free plan, so neither is a paid add-on.
Cowork is available on Pro, Max, Ultra, Team and Enterprise, per the Cowork guide, and Design, Slides and Docs are on every plan including Free.
Their cost is measured in usage rather than dollars.
Cowork and Claude Code draw from the same allowance as chats, so a heavy Cowork workload may reach the weekly limit on a $17 Pro seat and not on a $100 Max seat.
Once the allowance runs out, usage credits let you keep working at standard API rates.
That is the only extra charge either product can generate.
Is There a Claude Student Price or Education Discount?
No. There is no student price and no standing discount code; Anthropic runs occasional first-time-subscriber promotions, web only, for fixed windows.
Students can use the Free plan with an email address in a supported location.
A university-wide plan is quoted per institution through Claude for Education, with no published price.
One group does get a published discount: principal investigators at accredited academic and nonprofit research institutions can start a Team plan at no cost for standard seats and $15 for premium seats for 12 months, for one to 25 seats.
Did Claude Raise Its Prices? What Actually Changed
No sticker price went up.
Pro is still $20, and Max has been $100 and $200 since the plan launched in April 2025, with the $200 tier now sold as Ultra; no Pro, Max, Ultra, Team or Enterprise seat price rose in 2026.
The API moved the other way.
Sonnet 5 launched at an introductory $2 input / $10 output per million tokens, and on August 10, 2026 Anthropic made that price permanent; the $3 / $15 standard rate that was due on September 1 "no longer applies."
The 5.5 generation then moved prices down, not up: Opus 5.5 costs $4 / $20 against Opus 5's $5 / $25, and Haiku 5.5 costs $0.10 / $0.50 for prompts up to 100,000 tokens against Haiku 4.5's $1 / $5.
When Opus 5.5 launched on September 22, 2026, Anthropic also raised the five-hour limits on Pro, Max, Team and seat-based Enterprise plans.
No model's list price went up in 2026; the most expensive one on the old card, Opus 4.1 at $15 / $75, was simply retired on August 5.
What people mistake for a price rise is the bundle.
The Fable 5 promotion for Pro and Team standard seats ended on July 19, 2026 and never covered Fable 5.1; those seats now pay usage credits for Fable, and eligible subscribers received a one-time credit.
The latest change is to Max's names and limits: Max 5x is now simply Max at $100, and Max 20x is now Ultra, with existing subscribers moved over at the same $200 price, 10x Pro's weekly usage and no five-hour limit for verified accounts.
Claude 4.7 and later models also use a tokenizer that produces about 30% more tokens for the same text, so subscription limits are reached sooner and API bills rise at unchanged rates.
Claude's 2026 changes were to plan bundles and a cheaper API rate card, not to plan prices. Source: Claude pricing page, Claude Help Center and Claude Developer Platform pricing and deprecation pages.
How Much Does the Claude API Cost per Token?
The API has no monthly fee and bills per million tokens, and it is also where overflow is charged when usage credits are on.
The current rate card on Anthropic's pricing page runs from Haiku 5.5 to Fable 5.1.
| Model | Input per million tokens | Output per million tokens |
|---|---|---|
| Fable 5.1 | $10 | $50 |
| Opus 5.5 | $4 | $20 |
| Sonnet 5.5 | $2 | $10 |
| Haiku 5.5 (prompts up to 100K tokens) | $0.10 | $0.50 |
| Haiku 5.5 (prompts over 100K tokens) | $0.50 | $2.50 |
| Opus 5 | $5 | $25 |
| Sonnet 5 | $2 | $10 |
| Haiku 4.5 | $1 | $5 |
Batch processing takes 50% off input and output.
Cache reads cost one-tenth of the input price on most models, 5% on Opus 5.5 and Sonnet 5.5, and 2.5% on Fable 5.1; cache writes cost 1.25 times the input price for a five-minute cache or twice for a one-hour cache.
Claude 4.6 and later models, except Haiku 5.5, include the full 1-million-token context window at standard pricing.
Anthropic's own example on its pricing page is a one-hour Claude Managed Agents session on Opus 5.5 that uses 50,000 input and 15,000 output tokens: $0.20 of input, $0.30 of output and $0.08 of session runtime, $0.58 in total, falling to about $0.43 if 40,000 of the input tokens are cache reads.
Web search costs $10 per 1,000 searches.
Code execution is free for the first 1,550 container-hours a month per organization, then $0.05 per container-hour, and free when combined with web search or web fetch; US-only inference carries a 1.1x multiplier.
The full card, with cache and batch rates for every model, is in the guide to the Claude API price per million tokens.
Output tokens and caching decide most of an API bill, as Anthropic's own Opus 5.5 example shows. Source: Claude Developer Platform pricing page (list prices).
Does Claude Cost the Same in Every Country?
No. The prices above are US dollar prices excluding tax, and the currency, the tax and the store you buy through all change the figure on your bill.
Anthropic publishes no country price list; its Pro plan article says only that prices show "in your local currency where supported," so the figure on your account's upgrade page is the only official one.
Mobile app store prices can differ from the web price, and any local price you see on a third-party site is unofficial.
The country-by-country mechanics are in the guide to Claude's subscription price by country.
What Claude's Pricing Tells You About Anthropic's Business
Subscriptions are the visible end of a business that is mostly sold to companies.
Anthropic's S-1, filed October 26, 2026, reports $16.3 billion of revenue for the first half of 2026, more than 11,900 customers spending over $100,000 a year and about 250 spending over $10 million, with Net Revenue Retention of roughly 900%.
Amendment No. 1 to the S-1, filed November 2, 2026, added the third quarter, broken down in Anthropic's Q3 2026 results.
Consumer plans are not broken out in the filing's summary, which tells you where the weight sits.
No plan price in this article rose in 2026 while first-half revenue went from $1.2 billion in 2025 to $16.3 billion in 2026; the pricing lever Anthropic has pulled is the bundle, what each tier includes, and the API rate card, not the sticker.
The SEC-filed numbers, and why the company reports a loss alongside a positive adjusted margin, are in whether Anthropic is profitable.

Can I buy shares in Claude or Anthropic?
Not yet; Anthropic filed its public S-1 on October 26, 2026 and Amendment No. 1 on November 2, 2026 to list on Nasdaq as ANT, and until the IPO prices the only exposure is indirect, including the ANTHROPICUSDT pre-IPO contract on MEXC, which conveys no shares.
The Short Version on Claude's Pricing
Choose a plan by usage, because most paid tiers share the same products.
Pro at $17 a month on annual billing is the value pick for one person, Max and Ultra are usage purchases with an API credit attached, and Team suits shared projects and admin control.
Verify the figures on Anthropic's own pages before you subscribe, since the company can change them.
The business behind the pricing now has numbers on file with the SEC, and the guide to whether Anthropic stock is public yet covers what the IPO filing means for anyone who wants to own it.
Trading crypto assets is high-risk; prices can be highly volatile and you may lose everything you put in. No security measure removes all risk, and MEXC does not promise principal protection or absolute security. This article is not investment advice.
