A “wild card” contender has emerged as MAGA allies push for a new attorney general following the ouster this week of Pam Bondi.
As loyalists jockey to replace Bondi, some in President Donald Trump’s orbit are rallying behind Harmeet Dhillon, an ultra-conservative lawyer and current Justice Department official.

Dhillon has “spent years as a Republican Party official and conservative lawyer, known for challenging pandemic-era restrictions and supporting Trump’s efforts to contest the 2020 election,” the Daily Beast reported Friday. She has also represented high-profile clients, including former Fox News host Tucker Carlson.
Supporters in the MAGAverse quickly lined up behind her potential nomination to the nation’s top law enforcement job.
“Harmeet Dhillon would be an exceptional Attorney General,” conservative activist Scott Presler wrote on X, citing her work “suing states for their voter rolls to ensure that only American citizens can vote," according to the report.
Former Trump White House official Tim Clark added, “She would bring the scales of justice, big time!”
Conservative influencer Mike Cernovich said Dhillon is “definitely someone most supported by the base,” while former Republican Rep. George Santos told his social media followers, “I love this.”
“But while Dhillon’s reputation has made her a firebrand among some in Trump’s orbit, critics view her as a conspiracy theorist and controversial figure intent on stripping back rights,” the Daily Beast said. “Civil rights groups and legal organizations opposed her nomination to lead the Civil Rights Division, whose focus used to be on enforcing laws around racial discrimination, voting rights, police misconduct, and disability access.”
Other contenders include Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche and EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin.
