PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Harapan’s Puteri Wangsa candidate Maszlee Malik has accepted a challenge to debate caretaker Johor menteri besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi ahead of the state election next month.
In a Facebook post today, Maszlee said many people had talked to him about the challenge issued by Facebook page WOW Malaysia to debate Onn Hafiz, who is Johor Barisan Nasional chief, ahead of the Johor polls.
“With all humility and respect, and in the spirit of democracy, I accept this challenge,” he said.
The former education minister said he hoped the debate or dialogue would serve as a “platform to educate the people and foster a mature political culture”.
Yesterday, PH unveiled its candidates for the July 11 Johor election, naming Maszlee for the Puteri Wangsa seat.
The coalition also announced Onn Abu Bakar as its candidate for Senggarang, Johor PKR Youth chief Faezuddin Puad for Kempas, and Suhaizan Kaiat for Larkin.
PH chairman Anwar Ibrahim, who is also the prime minister, announced the lineup, with the coalition set to contest all 56 seats in the election.
