Over 30,000 consumers approved to receive additional BUDI Diesel quota, says Amir Hamzah

PUTRAJAYA, July 1 — More than 30,000 consumers have applied for and received approval for an additional BUDI Diesel quota from 200 litres to 300 litres as of yesterday to meet the needs of those who use diesel in higher quantities.

Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan said the facility was introduced following feedback received from small traders, hawkers and service providers in rural areas who require diesel consumption beyond the original quota.

He said the improvement was among several initiatives implemented by the government to facilitate the implementation of BUDI Diesel which began to be expanded nationwide today.

“As of yesterday, more than 30,000 people have applied for and received approval in the application provided,” he told the media after reviewing the implementation of BUDI Diesel at a petrol station here today.

In addition, Amir Hamzah said the government also allows the transfer of quota to immediate family members in cases such as vehicles used by parents but registered in the child’s name.

He said that until yesterday, more than 1,000 applications for quota exchange to immediate family members had been received.

In a statement yesterday, the Ministry of Finance (MOF) said RTD will implement a fee exemption for diesel vehicle ownership transfer for three months starting July 1, 2026, involving a fee that can currently reach up to RM100.

To facilitate the matter, RTD counters will be open on weekends from July 4 to July 31, 2026, from 8.00 am to 5.00 pm, at all state RTD offices and state UTC RTD offices.

MOF also provides a mechanism for transferring BUDI Diesel eligibility for vehicles used by immediate family members other than the registered owner.

Through this mechanism, the original recipient of BUDI Diesel can transfer the function of purchasing subsidised diesel to an immediate family member, namely a spouse, parent, child or sibling, subject to the conditions and verification set.

This transfer is only allowed once and to one recipient only. After approval, the recipient can use their own MyKad to buy subsidised diesel based on the original owner’s BUDI Diesel eligibility.

In a similar development, Amir Hamzah said the price of BUDI Diesel has been reduced to RM2.10 per litre starting today compared to RM2.15 per litre previously as a result of savings from reduced diesel subsidy leakage.

He said the implementation of BUDI Diesel in Peninsular Malaysia through early access since June 27 has been going smoothly with almost 80,000 users taking advantage of the facility, while more than 700,000 users are expected to be eligible to participate in the programme nationwide.

According to him, the government will continue to improve the implementation of BUDI Diesel from time to time to ensure that the process of its use is easier and smoother.
