Man jailed 10 years for raping 8-year-old girl

KUALA LUMPUR: An unemployed man was sentenced to 10 years’ jail and two strokes of the cane by the sessions court today after pleading guilty to raping an eight-year-old girl last year.

Judge Kafli Che Ali handed down the sentence on Hilmee Kusnan, 49, after he changed his plea to guilty to two charges brought against him in September last year.

He was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment and one stroke of the cane for the first charge of rape, and a further four years’ jail and one stroke of the cane for sexual assault.

He committed both offences against the girl, who was eight years old at the time, at a flat in Cheras at about 10.30am on Sept 4, 2025.

The charges were framed under Section 375(g) of the Penal Code and Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

The court ordered the jail sentences to run concurrently from today.

Hilmee was also required to undergo counselling for two years during his imprisonment and to be placed under police supervision for two years upon his release.

According to the facts of the case, the victim and the accused did not know each other.

The victim was riding in a lift on her way home when Hilmee, who was in the same lift, invited her to his unit on another floor.

She declined, but the accused held her hand and forced her to follow him to his unit, where he raped her.

The accused then gave the girl RM3 and warned her not to tell anyone about the incident.

She told her friend about the incident later the same day, and the friend’s mother subsequently informed the victim’s mother.

The woman then took the girl to a hospital, where a medical examination revealed a fresh tear and abrasion on her private parts.

The woman then lodged a police report.

Counsel Ismail Yunus represented the accused while Noor Shakira Aliana Alias appeared for the prosecution.
