1,800 more riders get P5,000 aid

THE Philippine government has distributed cash relief assistance worth P5,000 to thousands of ride-hailing drivers in Metro Manila as part of efforts to cushion the impact of the country’s energy emergency.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on Sunday conducted a special payout for unclaimed cash aid to two-wheel and four-wheel JoyRide drivers at the Bahay ng Alumni in the University of the Philippines Diliman, under the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. to help drivers cope with rising fuel costs and other expenses amid the energy crisis.

In a Facebook post, DSWD said over 1,800 drivers had received P5,000 each in financial assistance.

The assistance forms part of the government’s broader relief measures aimed at supporting transport workers affected by higher oil prices and related economic pressures. — Chloe Mari A. Hufana
