Three banking groups said bank-operated ATMs clearly display a single bank’s name and logo on the exterior of ATMs and on ATM screens.
PETALING JAYA: Three banking associations have said that standard fees may still apply when using non-bank ATMs, following banks’ decision to waive the RM1 interbank withdrawal fee effective this month.
In a statement, the Association of Banks in Malaysia, Association of Islamic Banking and Financial Institutions Malaysia, and Association of Development Finance Institutions of Malaysia said the RM1 fee waiver applied to ATMs operated by banks nationwide.
“Bank-operated ATMs clearly display a single bank’s name and logo on the exterior of the ATM and on the ATM screen.
“Non-bank operated ATMs will generally display the logos of multiple banks,” they said.
In a statement, they said the waiver of the RM1 withdrawal fee reflected a broader vision of building a more inclusive and accessible financial system.
For further information on the RM1 waiver, they said customers could refer to banks’ official communication channels, including websites, mobile banking applications, and customer contact centres.
The initiative, involving all banks in Malaysia, will allow debit cardholders to make unlimited free withdrawals at more than 14,000 machines throughout the country.
