Reveal findings of probe into parking app data breach, Selangor govt told

PETALING JAYA: PKR’s Lee Chean Chung has called on the Selangor government to immediately publish the findings of a probe into the Flexi Parking app data breach, including the cause and scope of the leak.

In a statement, the Petaling Jaya MP said the report should also highlight the financial implications and the corrective action being taken.

“If such transparency is not forthcoming, Selangor assemblymen should request that the Selangor select committee on competency, accountability and transparency conduct a public hearing into the matter.

“A transparent and professional inquiry is necessary to identify weaknesses, strengthen oversight, and restore public confidence,” he said.

Adding that the data breach involved more than just a loss of parking revenue, he said it was also about the potential compromise of citizens’ personal data.

He said the relevant authorities owed the public an explanation, especially since he had raised concerns in the past about the privatisation of public digital infrastructure.

Lee said the breach should serve as a warning, adding that cybersecurity was not merely an IT issue, but a matter of public trust, governance, and accountability.

“When citizens are required to entrust their personal information and daily transactions to government-linked digital systems, the government has a duty to ensure that such trust is never taken for granted.”

The Smart Selangor Parking and Flexi Parking phone applications came under cyberattack on Tuesday, leaving motorists unable to pay for parking.

The cyberattack also disrupted the digital parking payment app across 64 local authorities nationwide. It began operating again yesterday.
