Bonk (BONK) Tokenomics

Bonk (BONK) is a community-driven utility token built on the Solana blockchain. Launched on December 25, 2022, it was designed to support the Solana ecosystem by distributing tokens to a wide base of participants, including NFT collectors, developers, and artists.

Issuance Mechanism

BONK was launched with a fixed maximum supply of approximately 100 trillion tokens. Unlike many projects that conduct a presale or Initial Coin Offering (ICO), Bonk utilized a massive airdrop to distribute 50% of its initial supply directly to the Solana community.

The project employs a deflationary mechanism through token burns. As of January 31, 2024, approximately 6.46 trillion BONK have been burned, reducing the maximum supply to roughly 93.56 trillion. These burns are primarily driven by ecosystem activities, such as trading fees from BonkBot.

Usage and Incentive Mechanism

BONK serves as a utility token across a growing list of over 130 integrations in DeFi, gaming, and social applications. Key usage and incentive structures include:

• Liquidity Provisioning: Users can provide liquidity on BonkSwap for pairs like BONK/SOL and BONK/USDC. LPs earn a pro-rata share of transaction fees, with advertised APYs historically ranging between 23% and 43%.
• Staking Rewards: Tokenholders who provide liquidity to incentivized pools receive esBONK rewards. Approximately 55.56 million esBONK tokens are distributed daily.
• BonkBot Referral Program: Users who refer others to the BonkBot trading tool receive a percentage of the new user's trading fees (30% in the first month, 20% in the second, and 10% perpetually thereafter), paid in BONK.
• Gaming and Options: BONK is used in "Bonk or Bust," a binary options platform where users trade on the SOL/USD price ratio. It is also integrated into games like Moonwalk to provide financial incentives for fitness goals.
• NFT Creation: The token can be used to mint NFT art collectibles, with some platforms requiring as little as 1 BONK per NFT.

Locking Mechanism and Unlocking Time

Bonk utilizes specific locking and vesting schedules to ensure long-term alignment of contributors and to manage liquidity:

• Early Contributors Vesting: The 21% allocation for the 22 early contributors is subject to a three-year linear vesting period that commenced on January 1, 2023.
• esBONK Unlocking: esBONK rewards earned through liquidity provisioning must be staked on BonkSwap to unlock actual BONK tokens. This process occurs linearly at a 1:1 ratio over a 365-day period.
• BonkRewards: Users can lock their BONK tokens in the BonkRewards pool to receive a share of the fees collected by the ecosystem.
• Future Unlock Schedule: Data indicates a consistent daily unlock pattern for the asset. For the period ending in late 2025, approximately 19.16 billion BONK (representing 0.02% of the circulating supply) is scheduled to unlock daily.
