Ze signaleert drie belangrijke trends die de toekomst van stablecoins vormgeven. Een wildgroei aan nieuwe stablecoins Long noemt deze ontwikkeling de “stablecoin flurry”: een storm van nieuwe dollar-gekoppelde tokens die de markt overspoelen. Volgens haar zijn veel van deze initiatieven vooral gedreven door hype in plaats van echte noodzaak. Ze vergelijkt het met de NFT-hype van 2020–2021. Toch erkent ze dat sommige stablecoins wél echte waarde leveren, bijvoorbeeld door internationale banktransacties te vergemakkelijken of loyaliteitsprogramma’s van klanten te ondersteunen. Opkomst van eigen stablecoin-betalingsnetwerken Veel bedrijven bouwen nu hun eigen betaalnetwerken gebaseerd op stablecoins. Long spreekt van “stablecoin payment network popups” en wijst erop dat deze netwerken vaak verbonden zijn aan grote merken. Ze waarschuwt echter voor projecten zonder licentie of duidelijke regelgeving: “Dan creëer je gewoon het oude correspondent banking-probleem opnieuw, maar dan op de blockchain.” Volgens haar hebben bedrijven die serieuze betalingsinfrastructuur willen bouwen een gereguleerde aanpak nodig. Ripple zelf ontwikkelde de Ripple USD (RLUSD), een eigen stablecoin gericht op echte wereldtoepassingen in betalingen en afwikkeling. Maar dat vergt volgens haar enorme kapitaalinvesteringen en meerdere jaren aan doorontwikkeling. Wat zijn de laatste ontwikkelingen op het gebied van XRPL? We zetten even een aantal ontwikkelingen op het gebied van XRPL op een rijtje. Ripple engineer J. Ayo Akinyele positioneert XRPL nadrukkelijk als platform voor institutionele adoptie door privacy en compliance op protocolniveau te versterken. Hij noemt aspecten zoals zero-knowledge proofs (ZKPs) en confidential multipurpose tokens (MPTs) als middelen om transactiedata selectief te verbergen, zonder in te boeten aan regulatoire transparantie. Volgens zijn plannen wordt de MPT-standaard sinds 1 oktober 2025 actief op de hoofdnetwerkversie van XRPL. Confidential MPTs, cryptografisch beschermde vormen van tokenized collateral, zijn al in 2026 in gebruik te nemen. Deze stappen zijn gericht op het overtuigen van financiële instellingen om hun kernprocessen (zoals leningen, effecten en afwikkelingen) op XRPL uit te voeren, mits privacy en compliance gegarandeerd zijn. Protocol-, netwerk- en toolupdates De XRPL-community kondigde aan dat PermissionDelegation, een voorgestelde wijziging (amendment), nog extra werk nodig heeft en voorlopig niet ondersteund zal worden in de eerstvolgende release van de referentie­server (rippled). Omdat dit wijzigingsvoorstel voor onduidelijkheid zorgt bij validators, wordt Devnet (ontwikkelnetwerk) op vrijdag 3 oktober 2025 gereset om aanpassingen en tests mogelijk te maken zonder het hoofdnetwerk te beïnvloeden. Er is ook een belangrijke wijziging geweest in de UNL (Unique Node List): de standaard UNL die gebruikt wordt door XRPL-servers is verhuisd naar een nieuw URL en nieuwe sleutelparen. Operators van XRPL-nodes moeten vóór 30 september 2025 migreren om continue werking te garanderen. Versie 2.3.1 van rippled (de referentie-implementatie van het XRPL-protocol) is uitgekomen. In de XRPL-blog werd ook beschreven hoe de MPT-standaard wordt gebruikt voor praktische toepassingen, bijvoorbeeld een project dat FortStock heet dat ‘idle warehouse inventory’ (niet gebruikte opslaggoederen) omzet in bruikbaar onderpand via MPT’s. Analysts predict that altcoins like Bitcoin Hyper ($HYPER), which are fundamentally linked to Bitcoin’s success as an asset, are expected to rally as a result. We’ll discuss why $HYPER might succeed in a moment, but let’s focus on where the Bitcoin activity is happening first. Why is the Price of Bitcoin Spiking? It’s a mix of growing distrust in the USD and increasing demand for Bitcoin. The US dollar experienced its worst first half of the year since 1973, prompting traders to seek alternative assets not tied to the dollar to preserve value. Consequently, Bitcoin has surged, nearly doubling over the past year. ETFs are driving much of the activity in a shrinking Bitcoin supply. By August 11th this year, crypto ETFs had accumulated $29.4B in inflows. Last week was the second-best week for Bitcoin ETFs to date, after November 2024’s record-breaking $6.2B in $BTC inflows. According to financial research company River, demand is quickly surpassing supply for Bitcoin. In 2025, ETFs are buying about 1,430 $BTC on average each day.
